Study Visit to France and Germany

What is the visit about?

The visit is a study/cultural visit to enable pupils to speak French and/or German. Pupils will learn about the cultural aspects of the towns we will be visiting. Study packs will be provided.

Staff

Pupils will be accompanied on the visit by Mrs. J. Palmer (visit leader), Miss. E. Cole, Mr. R. Boswell, Mr K. Heggart and Mr. C. Papworth.

Strasbourg

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is in France and is close to Germany. This will give pupils studying German the opportunity to visit Germany and speak the language.

Accomodation

While in Strasbourg we will be staying in a youth centre/hostel called CIARUS. It is clean, safe, friendly and situated in the centre of Strasbourg. Accomodation will be full board. There are 285 beds on 4 floors; with 3-4 pupils to each room. Rooms are cleaned daily.

Itinerary/Programme

Saturday 15th July
Pupils Arrive at 12:30am.
  • Departure at 12:45.
  • Journey – Dover for a sailing to Calais (90 minutes)
  • Arrive Calais 5:30 (one hour ahead)
  • Pupils will need some money for breakfast and lunch.
  • Arrive in Strasbourg at about 14:00.

Upon our arrival we will be familiarising ourselves with the centre. There will be a rest break until 15:30 followed by a walk around the area until 16:45. Dinner will be served at 18:00. Study packs in French and German. A "crêperie" (pancake making activity) has been arranged. The group will retire to bed at 22:30.

Sunday 16th July
  • A coach tour around The European Parliament, The Council of Europe and The European Court of Human Rights.
  • A full day's excursion to Shluchsee Aqua fun in Germany (situated beside the largest lake in the black forest).
  • Packed lunches will be provided. Pupils will be expected to speak in French or in German when necessary.
  • Continue to work on study packs.
  • Dinner at the Hostel.

Monday 17th July
  • A full day's excursion – packed lunches provided.
    Cable car trip to Freiburg mountain.
  • A visit to the town of Freiburg - capital of the Black Forest
  • A friendly town blessed with abundant sunshine.
  • The attractive old quarter has twisting lanes, pretty courtyards, little streams known as "Bächle" and traditional restaurants.
  • Towering over everything is the Minster with its unique spire.
  • Freiburg is an understandably popular choice for wine connoisseurs and gourmets.
  • Dinner at the Hostel

Tuesday 18th July
  • A full day's visit to the Europa park.
  • Packed lunches will be provided
  • Evening Disco

Wednesday 19th July
  • Depart Strasbourg after breakfast
  • Stop at Cité Europe in Calais
  • Estimated arrival at the Campus 22:00
